Anonymous conversations can be enjoyable when boundaries remain clear and leaving stays easy. Use these practical steps to protect your identity, recognize manipulation, secure your device, and respond when a chat becomes uncomfortable or unsafe.

Protect your identity

Treat a new match as an unknown person, even when the conversation feels friendly. Avoid sharing your full legal name, exact home or work address, live location, personal phone number, school, employer, daily routine, government identifier, private photographs, passwords, recovery phrases, authentication codes, or banking details. Small facts can be combined to identify someone, so consider what your nickname, interests, local references, and answers reveal together. If you later choose to continue a friendship elsewhere, move slowly, verify independently where reasonable, review the privacy settings of that platform, and remember that screenshots or copied messages may exist outside this website.

Notice scams and manipulation

Scams often rely on urgency, secrecy, sympathy, romance, authority, or an offer that appears unusually profitable. Leave when someone asks for money, gift cards, cryptocurrency, bank transfers, verification codes, account access, paid favors, or help receiving and forwarding funds. Be cautious with dramatic emergencies, guaranteed investments, fake job offers, prize claims, or a person who rapidly pushes the conversation onto another platform. Manipulation can also look like excessive flattery followed by pressure, guilt for setting a boundary, threats to expose messages, or repeated attempts to make you prove trust. A convincing story is not proof of identity or good intent.

Respond to harassment and sexual pressure

You never have to answer sexual questions, tolerate insults, debate hate speech, provide private images, or continue after saying no. End the conversation when a stranger sexualizes the chat without consent, repeatedly ignores a topic boundary, threatens you, targets a protected characteristic, or tries to shame you into staying. The service is for adults only; immediately leave and report any participant who says they are under eighteen, requests sexual material involving a minor, or appears to be grooming or exploiting someone. Do not keep engaging to investigate on your own, and do not redistribute harmful content as evidence.

Protect your device and accounts

Do not open unexpected links, download unknown files, install remote-access software, scan unfamiliar QR codes, or paste commands into your device because a stranger asks you to. A link can imitate a familiar login page, attempt to capture credentials, or lead to malicious content. Keep your browser and operating system updated, use unique passwords with multi-factor authentication, and never share a one-time security code. If you opened something suspicious, close it, disconnect from the conversation, run the security checks recommended for your device, change affected passwords from a trusted device, and contact the relevant bank or service provider when financial access may be involved.

Use End, Next, and Report

Your controls are designed to keep leaving simple. The first press on End changes the control to Next for a short confirmation window so an accidental tap does not immediately close the chat; pressing Next during that window ends the current conversation and starts another search. If the button returns to End, the chat remains open. Use Report when behavior may threaten you or other users, select the closest reason, and add only useful factual context. Reporting closes that match and can include limited recent conversation context for moderation. You do not need to warn the other person before ending or reporting.

After a serious incident

An in-app report can help with platform safety, but it is not an emergency service and cannot provide immediate physical protection. If a message suggests an imminent threat, self-harm emergency, child exploitation, financial theft, stalking, or another real-world danger, preserve only the information you can safely keep and contact an appropriate local emergency service, law-enforcement body, financial institution, or trusted support organization. Tell a trusted person what happened if you feel distressed or targeted. Block related accounts on other services, review exposed information, and avoid retaliating or confronting the stranger. Your immediate safety matters more than finishing the conversation or proving that you were right.

What is StrangersChat?

StrangersChat is an independent, text-only service that matches adults for private one-to-one conversations without a conventional account or public profile.

Does StrangersChat use WebRTC?

No. The current browser client has no RTCPeerConnection flow. Production text messages use protected server/database functions and private Supabase Realtime channels.

Can another stranger see my IP address?

The chat interface does not give your IP address to the matched participant. Service and network providers process connection data, and an external link can expose connection information to the third-party site you open.

Does StrangersChat operate fake users that impersonate humans?

No. StrangersChat does not operate automated accounts that pretend to be real human users.

Can third parties still attempt spam or automated misuse?

Yes. A third party may attempt spam, scams, or automation despite rate limits and private authorization. Suspicious behavior should be ended and reported.

Are ordinary messages stored?

Temporarily. Production messages are written to the database for delivery, ordering, rate limiting, and short recovery. Ended chats and their ordinary messages are scheduled for deletion after about one hour; active chats expire after 24 hours.

What information may be retained with a safety report?

A report may retain the selected reason, optional details, participant identifiers and aliases, and up to 25 recent messages. Report records are scheduled for deletion after 90 days, subject to legal and operational limits.

Does StrangersChat require an account?

No conventional email, phone, password, or social-login account is required. The backend creates a temporary anonymous authentication session so private operations can be authorized.

Is StrangersChat completely anonymous?

No internet service can promise complete anonymity. What you type, browser storage, technical providers, screenshots, legal requests, and external links can all affect privacy.

Who is allowed to use StrangersChat?

The service is intended for adults aged 18 and older. Age confirmation is user-provided and is not identity verification.

How does reporting work?

Choose the closest reason and add only necessary context. A successful report closes the match, stores limited report context for review, and returns the reporting session to matching.

Is any stranger-chat platform completely risk-free?

No. Controls and moderation can reduce some risks but cannot verify every stranger or prevent every harmful message, scam, link, screenshot, or misuse.
