Omegle stopped operating in November 2023. Strangers Chat is a separate, independent service with no official relationship to Omegle and a current focus on one-to-one text conversations rather than video.
What this alternative is—and is not
People searching for an Omegle text chat alternative often want the simple experience of meeting an unknown person without building a social-media profile. Strangers Chat serves that broad purpose through its own product, code, policies, brand, and matching system. It does not use the Omegle logo, does not claim to continue the former service, and does not imply approval, ownership, partnership, or endorsement by Omegle or its creator.
Text instead of video
The current interface has no webcam, microphone, video room, voice call, image upload, or audio-message option. A match exchanges typed messages through server-routed infrastructure. This can reduce appearance pressure, avoid camera and microphone permissions, use less bandwidth than continuous video, and give each participant time to read before responding. Text does not eliminate harassment, scams, impersonation, suspicious links, or privacy mistakes, so ordinary stranger-chat precautions still apply.
No public profile or conventional account
A user can start without an email address, phone number, profile photograph, public biography, or follower list. An optional nickname and preferences are enough for the visible setup. The backend uses a temporary anonymous authentication session to protect private operations, and the browser can remember settings locally. This is anonymous by default, not a promise that identity can never be inferred or that infrastructure providers process no technical information.
Interest matching and wider fallback
Users can add up to eight interests and choose a chat language and gender preferences. The matching system prioritizes those signals during the first ten seconds. If the preferred pool is empty, it can connect to another real queued participant with different preferences so a small audience does not wait indefinitely. Shared interests help start a conversation, but they do not verify identity, age, location, compatibility, or truthfulness.
Safety controls and their limits
End, Next, and Report make it possible to leave without the other person’s agreement. Reports can retain limited recent context for review. The platform does not operate fake users that pretend to be human, although third parties may still attempt spam or automated misuse. Strangers Chat does not claim to be safer than Omegle or completely risk-free. Users should protect personal information, avoid unknown links and downloads, report serious misuse, and contact local authorities or support services for immediate real-world danger.
