This Privacy Policy explains how StrangersChat handles the information required for anonymous text matching, live message delivery, safety reports, device preferences, and reliable operation without creating a public social profile.

Information used for matching

StrangersChat uses the information you submit on the matching screen to provide the service you request. This may include an optional chat nickname, your selected gender category, the genders you are willing to match with, your preferred chat language, and the interests you choose to add. We also process your confirmation that you are at least eighteen years old and that you accept the Community Guidelines. These details are used to compare preferences on both sides, prioritize compatible language and shared interests, display relevant information during an active conversation, and prevent a new search from starting when required confirmations are missing. You are not asked to create a public profile, upload a photograph, publish a biography, provide a phone number, or build a follower list. Optional fields can be left blank, and you should never use a nickname or interest entry to reveal sensitive information that you do not want another participant to see.

Messages and safety reports

Text messages are temporarily written to the production database so they can be delivered in order, rate limited, and recovered during the same recent session. Up to 50 recent messages can be returned to a participant in an active chat. A scheduled cleanup expires active chats after 24 hours and deletes ended chat records and their ordinary messages after about one hour. A safety report is handled separately: it may retain the selected category, optional explanation, participant identifiers and aliases, and up to 25 recent messages for up to 90 days. Cleanup timing depends on the configured job, legal obligations, and provider operations. Reports should include only the information needed to explain the problem.

Device, session, and connection data

Like most real-time websites, StrangersChat must process limited technical information to maintain a live connection and keep matching reliable. This can include a temporary page-session identifier, connection status, whether the page is currently visible, timestamps, message delivery identifiers, basic request information, and diagnostic or security events generated when the service reconnects, times out, or detects unusually rapid activity. This information helps show accurate online status, preserve an active chat through a temporary screen change, queue messages while a participant is briefly offline, prevent duplicate delivery, apply reasonable rate limits, and investigate technical failures or misuse. Technical data is not intended to become a public identity. However, no internet service can promise that network information is completely anonymous to infrastructure providers, device operators, or authorities with valid legal powers.

Browser storage and language preferences

The website uses local browser storage to remember practical choices on your device. Saved items may include your matching preferences, optional nickname, selected interests, age and guideline confirmations, and the interface language you choose from the website language menu. Local storage allows the next visit to open with familiar settings without requiring an account. This information normally remains inside the browser profile that stored it, but anyone who can access the same unlocked device or browser profile may also be able to view or reuse those choices. You can remove the saved information by clearing site data in your browser, using private browsing where appropriate, or changing the fields before starting a new search. Clearing browser storage resets these preferences but does not control records that may already exist separately because of a submitted safety report, a security incident, or a legal obligation.

Sharing, service providers, and legal safety

Information is shared only as needed to operate, secure, and maintain StrangersChat, deliver communications between matched participants, review reports, prevent fraud or abuse, and comply with applicable law. Hosting, network, security, and technical service providers may process limited data on our behalf when their systems are necessary to make the website available. We do not describe ordinary chat preferences as a public profile, and the current service is not designed to sell a behavioral advertising identity built from private conversations. Information may be preserved or disclosed when reasonably necessary to respond to a valid legal request, protect the rights and safety of users or the public, investigate suspected illegal activity, enforce service rules, defend legal claims, or maintain the integrity of the platform. Any disclosure should be limited to what is relevant for the legitimate purpose involved.

Your choices, retention, and policy updates

You control several important privacy choices directly: you may avoid optional profile details, select broad preferences, stop typing, end a chat, skip to another stranger, submit a safety report, change the interface language, or clear locally saved website data. Different information is kept for different periods according to its purpose. Temporary chat and connection information should be removed or expire when it is no longer needed for the active service, while reports, security records, or legally required information may be retained longer to protect users and resolve incidents. We may update this Privacy Policy when features, laws, safety practices, or service providers change. The updated date on this page indicates the current version. Continued use after an update means the service will operate under the revised notice, so users should review this page periodically and stop using the website if they do not agree with the changes.
