Anonymous Text Chat Without a Public Profile
“Anonymous by default” means the current chat flow does not ask you to create a public account, upload a profile photo, provide an email address, or publish a real-world identity. It does not mean perfect or guaranteed anonymity.
What is not required to begin
The current experience does not request a conventional username-and-password account, email address, phone number, profile photograph, biography, follower list, or public post history. A chat nickname is optional and can remain “Stranger.” Preferences such as nickname, interests, language, age confirmation, and guideline acceptance may be stored in the browser so the same device can remember them. The backend also creates a temporary anonymous authentication session so private matching and message operations can be authorized without an email login.
What anonymous by default does mean
Your chat partner sees the nickname you chose, the chat language selected for the match, shared interests when applicable, the text you send, typing activity, and an online or offline indicator. The partner is not given a public profile page or a direct field containing your email, phone number, or network address. The service still processes technical session, connection, timing, preference, message, and safety information required to operate the queue and live chat.
What anonymity cannot guarantee
A stranger may infer identity from details you reveal, combine small clues, copy messages, take screenshots, misrepresent who they are, or persuade you to continue elsewhere. Hosting and network providers process ordinary connection information as part of delivering any internet service. Lawful requests, security incidents, device access, or browser storage can also affect privacy. For these reasons, Strangers Chat does not describe the experience as perfectly or completely anonymous and does not independently verify a stranger’s identity.
External links create a separate privacy risk
Do not open an unknown link simply because it came from a friendly match. A third-party website can apply its own cookies, collect connection information such as an IP address, imitate a login page, request permissions, or distribute a harmful file. That external collection happens outside the Strangers Chat interface and is controlled by the other site. Avoid sharing passwords or one-time codes, keep your browser updated, and close the conversation if someone pressures you to click, install, scan, or sign in.
Ordinary messages and reported context are different
Production messages are temporarily written to the service database for delivery, ordering, rate limiting, and short recovery. Ended chats are scheduled for deletion after about one hour, while active chats expire after 24 hours. If a user submits a report, the category, optional details, participant identifiers and aliases, and up to 25 recent messages may be copied into a report record that is scheduled for deletion after 90 days. Actual deletion depends on the configured cleanup job, legal obligations, and operational backups or provider controls described in the Privacy Policy.
